Safety Description:Poison by ingestion and inhalation. A corrosive and poisonous irritant to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Explodes on contact with ethyl hydroperoxide. Ignites on contact with magnesium, perchloric acid, potassium + heat, potassium chlorate + heat, oxidants (e.g., fluorine, dinitrogen trioxide, dinitrogen tetraoxide, fuming nitric acid). Violent reaction with HClO4 + Mg, O3, metals. Potentially violent reaction with phosphorus. Reacts with water or steam to produce toxic and corrosive fumes. When heated to decomposition it emits highly toxic fumes of I−. See also IODIDES.
